Untitled: A Poem

tiny dog cyrus
goes on three walks a day
sniffing every leaf
where shall he poop today?

he stops by the church
squats, strains, and poops away
in front of the cross
cyrus don’t poo, i pray

omnicient god sees
all his creatures poo
not sacrilegious
tiny dog, it’s okay

About the Author + Commentary

Terry Zhou is a PhD Student at Emory University, a dear friend of mine, and a very talented poet. She has committed to drafting a poem each day in 2026 and has been kind enough to share her work with me.

She often challenges me to find the moral in her (often silly) poems. Cyrus doesn’t know he’s near a church, and G-d doesn’t need protecting from a tiny dog. It could be a funny reminder of how we project our own anxieties onto the world around us. Or maybe it's just a poem about a dog pooping.
